Emily Ruby is the Advocacy and Policy Coordinator focused on New York City based projects. Prior to coming to Riverkeeper, they worked for NYC City Council Member Lincoln Restler, whose district covers part of Brooklyn, including parts of Newtown Creek. They worked in that capacity on the Newtown Creek Superfund cleanup, the HATS plan with a focus on its North Brooklyn impacts, and on water quality improvement and CSO reduction in Brooklyn waterways. Emily also previously worked for the Gowanus Canal Conservancy where they led volunteer events and worked on outreach for the Gowanus BID Formation.
Emily is a lifelong Brooklyn resident, and has focused their work around improving environmental conditions in Brooklyn and New York City. They graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where they studied Environmental Studies. They spent several years working in Maine electoral politics before moving back to New York.
