Rev. Gregory Simpson, born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, is an educator, theologian, and scientist dedicated to environmental justice and STEM education advocacy. He holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry and serves as pastor of Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church in Pearl River, NY. Rev. Simpson previously held roles as Treasurer and Trustee for the Presbytery of the Hudson River and, more recently, was nominated and installed as Treasurer for the SYNOD of the Northeast, which oversees the financial resources for 19 presbyteries and just under 1000 church communities across eight states.
He chairs the Environmental Justice and Climate Change Subcommittee of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and serves on the Board of Trustees at SUNY Ulster Community College. Additionally, he chairs the Ulster County Economic Development Alliance board and is a former co-chair of the advisory board for the Center for Earth Ethics.
His research explores the ethical challenges of fossil fuel dependence and renewable energy transitions and the role of STEM education in advancing environmental and climate justice. During his seminary internship, he contributed to the Christian Education Ministry team at The Riverside Church and the eco-ministry at Broadway Presbyterian Church, both in Manhattan.
A dynamic preacher and teacher, Rev. Simpson has engaged with diverse congregations, including Presbyterian (PCUSA), United Church of Christ (UCC), Baptist, Congregational, Pentecostal, Evangelical, and Lutheran (ELCA) churches. He and his wife, Suzanne, reside in Ulster County, NY, with their two daughters and cats, Calvin and Luther.
