Changes to striped bass management under consideration
December 19, 2024
Riverkeeper Team
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) met on Monday to consider changes to the striped bass management plan in response to 2024 data showing the spawning stock is well below the target needed for successful recovery. The ASMFC chose to postpone its discussion of potential changes until next year, with any changes to be applied for the 2026 fishing season. This delay will provide ASMFC more time to develop additional management options, incorporate recent data, and receive public input. You can read the ASMFC’s press release here.
Riverkeeper is advocating for management changes that will ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the striped bass population.
