Congressional letter urges EPA action on Hudson River PCBs

Riverkeeper recently helped organize a bipartisan congressional letter led by Congressman Pat Ryan (NY-18) calling on the Environmental Protection Agency to declare that additional cleanup of the Hudson River PCBs Superfund site is necessary in order to protect local communities and clean water.
The letter, signed by more than a dozen congressional leaders, pushes for the EPA to analyze the most recent data and conclude that the cleanup of GE’s decades of “forever chemical” pollution fails to meet the standard protective of human health and the environment.
Despite its own data showing clear signs that harmful PCB contamination remains a serious threat to the Hudson, the EPA in January concluded that more information is needed to determine whether the cleanup has achieved its intended goals.
