Pushing back against deregulation of water withdrawals from the Hudson

Riverkeeper and our partners last week submitted comments arguing against a proposed change to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) rules that would allow companies to withdraw water from salt waters around New York City and the lower Hudson River without needing a permit.
These water withdrawals, often to the tune of billions of gallons per year, have a massive impact on aquatic wildlife, including killing countless fish, eggs, larvae, and other organisms. Riverkeeper opposes these attempts at deregulation and is pushing the NYS DEC to maintain its current permit requirements in order to protect the health of our ecosystems and fisheries.
