Riverkeeper urges state and city leaders to protect FEMA funding

The federal administration last week announced severe cuts to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), targeting a grant program that provides $5 billion in funding for climate resiliency and infrastructure upgrades across the country — including $325 million for projects in New York State.
These dollars supported stormwater absorption and retention projects in Manhattan and Queens, flood reduction projects in New York City Housing Authority developments, and large scale coastal resiliency projects critical to protecting residents, homes, infrastructure, and the environment.
This week, Riverkeeper joined the NYC Comptroller and the Rise to Resilience Coalition at a rally outside of City Hall, urging state and city leaders to take legal action to restore this funding and ensure that these necessary projects are completed.
